Snow White & the 7 Dwarfs (1937)

The 1 that started all of the Disney movies. Snow White & the 7 Dwarfs (1937) is a great animated fantasy musical movie. Not only it’s based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale of the same name. It’s also the 1st traditionally animated movie, & the 1st Disney animated feature film, which started the Walt Disney Animation Studios. So without further ado, let’s get down to the review.

WARNING: SPOILERS!!

Having lost both of her parents at a very young age, Snow White is a princess living with her stepmother, a vain Queen. Worrying that Snow White will be more beautiful than herself, the Queen forces her to work as a maid, & asks the Magic Mirror every single day…

Who is the fairest 1 of all.

For many years, the mirror always answers that the Queen is, pleasing her.

1 day, the Magic Mirror informs the Queen that Snow White is now the fairest 1 of all. On that same day, Snow White meets & falls in love with a prince who overhears her singing. Elsewhere, the Queen who is now jealous of Snow White’s beauty orders her Huntsman to take Snow White into the forest, kill her, & bring her heart back in a jeweled box. However, the Huntsman couldn’t kill Snow White, & begs for her forgiveness. He also reveals to her that the Queen wants her killed. After that, the Huntsman urges her to flee into the woods, & never return.

Lost & scared, Snow White is befriended by woodland creatures, who lead her to a cottage that’s deep into the woods. 🌳 Finding 7 small chairs in the cottage’s dining room. Snow White assumes that the cottage is the messy home of 7 orphaned children. With the help of the forest animals, she proceeds to clean the place, & cook a meal for them.

As it turns out, the cottage actually belongs to 7 adult dwarfs named…

1. Doc

2. Grumpy

3. Happy

4. Sleepy

5. Bashful

6. Sneezy

7. Dopey

who work in a nearby mine. Returning home, they are alarmed to find their cottage clean, & suspect that an intruder has invaded their home. The dwarfs find Snow White upstairs, asleep across three of their beds. Snow White awakes to find the dwarfs at her bedside, & introduces herself, & all of the dwarfs eventually welcome her into their home, after she offers to clean & cook for them.

Snow White keeps the house for the dwarfs, while they mine for jewels all day. They all sing, play music, & dance as well. However, it would’ve been nice if Dopey spoke like all of the other dwarfs though.

Meanwhile, the mirror reveals that Snow White is still alive, & living with the dwarfs. The Queen creates a poisoned apple that will put whoever eats it into the…

Sleeping Death! ☠️

She learns that the curse can only be broken by…

Love’s 1st Kiss! 💋

But it is certain that Snow White will be buried alive before this can happen. Using a potion to disguise herself as an old hag, the Queen goes to the cottage while the dwarfs are away. The animals attack her, but Snow White defends her. Unable to warn Snow White, the animals rush off to find the dwarfs. Claiming that the apple would make all of her dreams come true, the Queen tricks Snow White into biting into it. As Snow White falls asleep, the Queen declares herself as the fairest of the land now.

Then, the dwarfs return with the animals as the Queen leaves the cottage & they chase her, trapping her on a cliff. She tries to roll a boulder onto them. But a bolt of lightning strikes the cliff before she can do so, causing her to fall to her death. Much to the delight of the vultures, they fly down so that they can devour her lifeless body.

Returning to their cottage, the dwarfs find Snow White being kept in a deathlike slumber that was caused by the poison. Unwilling to bury her out of sight in the ground, they place her in a glassed coffin trimmed with gold in a clearing in the forest instead. Along with the woodland creatures, they mourn over her.

As time passes by, the Prince learns of her eternal sleep, & visits her coffin. Saddened by her apparent death, he kisses her, which breaks the spell & awakens her. Finally, the dwarfs & the animals all rejoice as the Prince takes Snow White to his castle.

THE END

This movie is a great start to the Walt Disney Animation Studios though. A lot of Disney fans consider this to be the 1st ever animated Disney movie, which was released at an early Disney movie era which is…
