Alien (1979)

Review Date: June 6th, 2022

Hi everyone. It’s been about a couple of weeks since I had last done a movie review. The reason for this review hiatus, is because I’ve been focusing on my Facebook Page for my Movie Blog. Also, things have been kinda hectic though. I apologize for that. But anyways, time for the movie.

Alien. Another great science fiction movie with some horror elements. It also became a phenomenal franchise as well. This movie is about a group of crew members of a spaceship that discovers a hive colony of unknown creatures. Then, the unknown creature starts to kill people 1 by 1. These unknown creatures are known as…

Xenomorphs

So let’s get down to the review for today.

John Hurt - Kane

Veronica Cartwright - Lambert

Harry Dean Stanton - Brett

Ian Holm - Ash

Yaphet Kotto - Parker

Bolaji Badejo - Alien

WARNING: SPOILERS!!

The commercial spaceship named…

Nostromo

is returning to Earth with 7 crew members. Their names are…

1. Captain Dallas

2. Executive Officer Kane

3. Warrant Officer Ripley

4. Navigator Lambert

5. Science Officer Ash

6. Engineer Parker

7. Engineer Brett

1 day, they receive a distress signal from a distant moon, & they land on the moon, despite Parker’s protests. The engineers stay on board for repairs while Dallas, Kane, & Lambert investigate the terrain. They discover that the signal originates from a derelict alien ship & they enter it, losing contact with the Nostromo. Ripley deciphers part of the transmission, determining it as a warning. But cannot relay the information to those on the derelict ship.

Meanwhile, Kane discovers a chamber that contains 100s of large, egg-like objects. But when he touches 1, a creature springs out, penetrates his helmet, & attaches itself to his face. Dallas & Lambert carry the unconscious Kane back to the Nostromo.

Shortly after, Ash attempts to remove the creature from Kane's face. But stops when he discovers that its extremely corrosive acidic blood could hurt Kane & potentially damage the hull. Later, the creature freely detaches, & is found dead. The creature that was on Kane’s face is known as a…

Facehugger

Kane awakens with some memory loss. But seems to be unharmed. During a final crew meal before returning to stasis, Kane suddenly chokes & convulses. A small alien creature bursts from his chest, killing him, & escapes into the ship, with Ash dissuading the rest from killing it. The creature that came out of Kane’s chest is known as a…

Chestburster

When my Aunt Sandy 1st saw Alien (1979), the Chestburster scene was the only scene that she remembered.

After ejecting Kane's body out of an airlock, the crew attempts to locate the creature with tracking devices & capture it with nets, electric prods, & flamethrowers as well. Brett follows the crew's cat into a landing leg compartment, where the now fully-grown alien attacks Brett, & disappears with his body. After Brett’s death, the Alien continues to kill more crew members 1 by 1 until Ripley is the only survivor of the Nostromo.

During the Alien’s killing process, Ash is revealed to be an android, & that he wants to have the Alien be brought directly to Weyland Corporation. Even if it would cost the lives of the crew members. However, Ash was not killed by the Alien. But it was definitely a plot twist.

Ripley initiates the self-destruct sequence. But finds that the alien is blocking her path to the shuttle. She retreats & unsuccessfully attempts to abort the self-destruct. With no further options, she flees to the shuttle, carrying the crew’s cat, & escapes as the Nostromo explodes.

As Ripley prepares for stasis, she discovers that the alien is aboard, having wedged itself into a narrow space. She dons a spacesuit, & uses gas to flush the creature out. The Alien approaches Ripley. But before it can attack, she opens an airlock door, almost blasting it into space. But it manages to hang on by gripping the frame.

Ripley shoots it with a grappling hook. But the gun catches as the airlock door closes, tethering the alien to the shuttle. It pulls itself into an engine exhaust. But Ripley fires the engines, blasting it away into deep space. During the film’s production, the Alien was created from parts of a Rolls-Royce, shredded condoms, K-Y Jelly, & vertebrates from snakes as well.

After recording the final log entry, she places the cat, & herself into stasis for the trip back to Earth.

THE END (for now)

This movie is a great Sci-fi movie. With some horror elements into it. Even though it was released in 1979, it was very popular in the 1980s. But in 1986, the sequel to Alien known as..

Aliens (1986)

Came out, & it was successful. Alien (1979) & Aliens (1986) both received positive reception.

I 1st watched this movie when I was 15 years old. I love everything about this movie. However, the sequels are more action-packed than it is horror though.

OVERALL: 10/10
