Taking place in December of 1940, the film’s presented in a series of vignettes, with narration provided by the adult Ralphie Parker, reminiscing on 1 very special Christmas when he was 9 years old in the fictional town of Hohman, Indiana. Ralphie wanted only 1 thing that Christmas which is a…
Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle!
Ralphie's desire is rejected by his mother, his teacher Miss Shields, & even a Santa Claus at Higbee's department store, all giving him the same warning:
“You’ll Shoot your Eye Out!”
Before Christmas, there are also vignettes that involve Ralphie & the Parker family such as…
1. The Old Man winning a Major Award, which is a lamp that greatly resembles a woman’s leg. But the mother didn’t like it. However, the lamp was accidentally broken.
2. The Old Man getting frustrated, while battling a malfunctioning furnace, & swearing at it. Which causes Ralphie to say…
Fudge (The Queen Mother of Dirty Words: (F*** Word)
But as punishment, Ralphie gets a soap bar put on his mouth.
3. The Old Man gets harassed by the dogs of the Bumpus family. They cause shenanigans. But the Family Christmas Turkey Dinner gets ruined. So they eat in a Chinese Restaurant.
4. Ralphie & his friends are tormented by Scut Farkus & Grover Dill. Eventually, Ralphie defeats the bully, by beating him up.
On Christmas morning, Ralphie receives some presents that he enjoys. But is disappointed not to find the rifle among them. When it appears that all of the presents have been opened, Ralphie's father directs him to 1 last present that’s hidden in the corner, which proves to contain the rifle.
He eagerly hurries outside to try it out, attaching a target to a metal sign in the backyard. But when he fires, the BB ricochets back, & hits him in the face. Believing at first that he has indeed shot his eye out, he realizes that the BB only knocked his glasses off, & begins searching for them in the snow, only to step on them by accident, & break them. He lies to his mother that a falling icicle struck him in the face, & broke his glasses. She believes him, & takes him to the bathroom to get cleaned up.
That night, Ralphie goes to sleep with the gun by his side as his adult self reflects that it was the best Christmas present he had ever received or would ever receive.
THE END (for now)
A Christmas Story (1983) is also 1 of my favorite Christmas movies ever! I love everything about this movie. Every Christmas Eve & Christmas Day, they would play the movie 24/7 on TBS. However, my Aunt Sandy’s not a big fan of this movie though.
